"Do not separate yourself from the community."
Pirke Avot
Chapter 2, Verse 5

For JCRCs and the organized American Jewish community, the security and survival of Israel, as well as the strength of the relationship between the United States and Israel, are of the utmost importance.

In addition, we are deeply concerned and involved in efforts responding to the needs of other Jewish communities around the world that are in difficulty or danger. Over the years, JCRCs and national Jewish agencies have exercised a leadership role in securing freedom for Jews in the Soviet Union, Ethiopia and Syria. We are concerned about Jewish communities in Europe, South America, Asia and wherever there are Jews who are in need of support and assistance.

Take 5 Minute to do 5 Things for Darfur
In the Darfur region of Sudan, government-sponsored militias are killing, raping and torturing innocent men, women and children. Tens of thousands have already died and hundreds more continue to die daily.

Over 2 million people have been displaced from their homes into the desert. They now live in camps without enough food, water, medical care or safety.

The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas aims to support and facilitate the worldwide efforts to stop the genocide, rape and other crimes against humanity being committed in the Darfur region of Sudan. We urge you, your family and friends to take 5 minutes to do 5 things for Darfur:

1. Educate Yourself
Read one news article to learn more about what is happening in Darfur. Visit the JCRC’s website http://www.jcrcdallas.org/international.php for information on the Crisis in Sudan or go to your favorite news source and search for “Darfur.”

2. Send a Letter
Urge your elected officials to support Darfur-related legislation that can make a difference. Specifically, urge passage of the Darfur Accountability Act in the Senate and the Darfur Genocide Accountability Act in the House of Representatives. If your members of Congress are already co-sponsors, please thank them and urge quick action on this legislation. Click here to send a letter to your Members of Congress: http://action.ajws.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=25503.

3. Make a Phone Call
Call President Bush at (202) 456-1414 and let him know that you are concerned about what is happening in Darfur and that you want the United States to demonstrate the necessary leadership to end the conflict.

4. Donate Money
Over 2 million people in Darfur have been displaced from their homes and are in dire need of humanitarian aid. Without such aid, thousands of people will die of hunger or lack of medical attention. Please consider making a donation to a humanitarian aid organization. You can make a donation to the American Jewish World Services at http://www.ajws.org.

5. Inform Others
Let at least one friend, family member or co-worker know what you did for Darfur and why they should take action as well.
