“Sunshine
Law”
Want
to know how your State Representative or Senator voted
on an
issue
important to you and your community? Currently that
information
is
not available as recorded votes are not taken on all
substantive votes in
the
Texas Legislature. Texas remains one of only nine states
that do not
require
its representatives and senators to record at least
some of their
votes.
As a result, legislators can hide their moves.
An
initiative known as the “Sunshine Law” calls
to amend the TexasConstitution
and
require Texas Legislators to record all votes. Across
the state over 150
organizations
and individuals, including State Representatives and
Senators,
have
signed on to the “Sunshine Law” initiative.
Many Jewish organizations and
religious
institutions across the Greater Dallas area have signed
on to this cause.
Click
here to view those organizations and institutions which
have signed
on
to this cause:

The
Dallas Morning News has been covering the “Sunshine
Law” in depth by
running
editorials in the paper approximately two times a month.
Please let us
add
your organization’s name to the list. If
your organization is interested in
signing
on to this initiative, please contact the JCRC.
The JCRC will ensure that
your
organization’s name is added to the list.
